Dear Parents

School Governing Body Elections – Parent Component

A reminder that the 3-year cycle SGB Elections will take place on Monday, 4 March 2024.  Please ensure that you carry your “Identity Document.” Unfortunately, the rules state  that we are not allowed to accept a driver’s license as proof of identity. If you wish to,  parents are able to check if they are on the voter’s roll from Monday, 26 February 2024. The election is considered a “closed meeting,” therefore, no one who is not on the voter’s  roll may attend. All proposers and seconders of nominees have to attend the election. A  15% quorum is needed for the election meeting to proceed.

Production 2000 Show

Learners from Grade 1 to 7 will enjoy an educational show from Production 2000 on  Monday, 26 February 2024. Please pay R22 if you have not done so, as yet. This is payable  via the Karri App. If you have paid through EFT, please send proof of the payment  through to Mrs Craig at mcraig@morningsideps.co.za. If proof of payment is not received  before the show, it will be taken as though you have chosen for your child not to watch  the show.

Learners whose parents have not paid for the show will not go through to the show as we  have had parents who have not paid for shows in the past. We cannot afford to continue  chasing after the same parents who do not pay for shows and civvies days. We still await the payment of Valentine’s Day’s civvies. If you choose not to pay for  civvies, the solution would be for your child to therefore, not wear civvies on the day. If  they have worn civvies on Valentine’s Day, R10 is due and is now 12 days overdue.

Grade 4 to 7 Gala

Beautiful perfect weather…

A resounding celebration of swimming talent. Congratulations to Athlone House on winning  for yet another year and to Buxton for coming in on a close second. Thank you to Mr  Singh and the dedicated House Mums who worked tirelessly to see our children have a  tremendous gala.

Thank you to Ms B. Younie, our maintenance person who ensured that we have a crystal  blue pool for our gala.

Netball Clinic

43 girls braved the extreme weather conditions to seek netball development. We are  thankful to the Selma Lessing Glenwood coaches who taught our girls important skills and  drills. Thank you to Mrs Bremmer who liaised with all involved and organised the event. A  special “Thank you” to Miss Gumede who spearheaded the event on Saturday.

District Championships

Daniel Black is now through to the third round, achieving first place in the District  Championships. He won with a distance of 4.51m in the Under 11 long jump event. The  Umlazi District is made up of approximately 230 schools. We are super proud of Daniel’s  achievement. We wish him all the best… as one of the sons of the Morningside house  strives towards KZN colours.

Philharmonic Orchestra

Such an incredible treat. The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra commented on how our  Morningside children are one of the best-behaved schools that they enjoy coming to. Mrs  Bremmer and I had a chance to be orchestra conductors for one of the songs, thus the  picture.

A few of the musicians left their phone numbers, should you wish to contact them for  lessons.

Emi – 081 489 4518 (Violin)

Julian Gaul – 081 098 8868 (Piano, Violin and percussion)

Neil Smith – 071 125 4777 (Piano, Violin and percussion)

Anna D’andrea – 072 290 7474 (Violin)

Netball Report

February 22nd marked the kick off for this year’s Netball matches. The u11 and u13's  attended a friendly match hosted by Holy Family College. These matches kept everyone  on the edge of their seats as the girls played their hearts out. Although we lost both  matches, the u13 girls walked off the court wearing a smile of achievement as they  managed to turn around 3 balls allowing Leah Tondo to score from them. Well done, girls! Written by Mrs J. Bremmer

Continuous Informal and Formal Assessments

A reminder that as per our Term 1 Calendar, Grade 4 to 7 Assessments will continue this  week. Please refer to the Programme of Assessment.

Cricket Report

Last week Wednesday, 14 February 2024, Morningside travelled to Port Natal with a  mixed division team of u11 and u13 boys. Morningside won the toss and bowled first. Port  Natal ended their innings on 24 runs all-out, which we quickly made in the second innings  to win by 10 wickets. It was another outing of spectacular bowling from our boys,  especially Moosa Seedat (Grade 7) who took a hatrick. Our opening batting partnership of  Dawood Seedat and Muhammad Hansa (Grade 6) continues to impress, as they once again  steered the team to victory.
