Dear Parents

Diphtheria and Tetanus Vaccinations:

Thank you to all our parents who have sent through their child’s “Road to Health” card and  consent form, thus heeding the call for immunisation. The above-mentioned vaccines are  extremely important; however, it is a choice.

We will be handing in numbers to the Department of Health and Social Development today so  that they are able to secure the exact number of vaccines that will be brought through on  Thursday, 17 October 2024.

All our Grade 5 learners will receive the Diphtheria and Tetanus vaccine but those learners who  did not receive them in Grade 5, especially our new Grade 6 and 7 learners, may have the  opportunity to be immunised this week.

Learners in Grade 1 to 4 who haven’t had their first Diphtheria / Tetanus vaccine at 6 years old  will also be able to receive their vaccine on Thursday, 17 October 2024.

No learner without a consent form and their “Road to Health” clinic card will be attended to by  the Overport Clinic nurses.

Excursions:

Our Grade 1 and 2 learners thoroughly enjoyed their educational outing last week to Flag Farm  and the National Sea Rescue Institute. We look forward this week to the Grade 4 and Grade 3  outings to UShaka and the Natal Sharks Board respectively.

‘The Black and Reds Go Marching On’

On the 9th of October, our u13 cricketers travelled up the hill and out of our district in pursuit  of more competitive fixtures. After walking through most of our opponents in the Durban  Central area in Term One, with the focus from the schools around us shifting to soccer, the  boys requested that we find some stronger opponents to play against this term.  Northdene Preparatory School answered our call! Winning the toss, they decided to bowl first  and to be fair our batting was not at its best. Several of our best batsman went out very early  in the innings, or were run out. Bilal Shaik then came on and managed to steady the ship, placing  most of our runs on the scoreboard. After 15 overs, we were on 83/9.

In Term One we gave away a lot of runs from wide balls, so it was great to see how much the  boys bowling had improved. Several boys have been practising throughout Term Two and Three,  although we don’t play cricket in those terms and they were on fire in the second innings. U13  Captain, Melokuhle Ntshangase took several wickets and very little was given away by Bilal  Shaik, brothers Moosa and Dawood Seedat and probably our most improved bowler Asemahle  Mhongo. After 14 overs, Northdene was on 65/all out. Morningside boys, celebrating the win, were in very high spirits on the drive back to Morningside.
